Some of these bred animals can eventually even be released into the wild. Many zoos are part of an interconnected network that exchanges possible mates, to diversify the gene pool and the animals’ surroundings. One of the ways zoos try to contribute to animal welfare is with an extensive breeding programme, aimed to keep the numbers up and avoid possible extinction. There is still a lot of moral discussion about zoos, as they do contain animals in captivity, often in and near cities. Cages were replaced by larger habitats, emulating the animals’ natural surroundings. Since the 19th and 20th century, Europe became ever more aware of the importance of animal welfare, especially in zoos. The parks educate visitors on the many animal species that roam our world, and form a platform for pursuing animal rights, preservation and welfare, as well as discussing the boundaries between using and abusing nature. Today, zoos no longer solely serve the purpose of entertainment. Many of the older zoos were originally founded by people with no previous expertise in animal care, and grew from curious private collections to generally accessible attractions. The status and fame that went with showcasing exotic species by far outweighed the welfare of the animals. They were initially showpieces for the elite, but were soon welcoming less rich citizens as well. Zoos have existed in the Netherlands since 1838. Varying greatly in size, shape and popularity, these institutions can be found all around the Netherlands, both in remote nature areas and in the centres of big Dutch cities. Most of these belong to the Dutch Animal Park Association (NVD), and the larger ones are also part of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA). The numbers just given will give the plumb cut and the seat cut of this valley rafter. Length of valley rafter, then, is found by taking 19.20" on the tongue with 10" (5/6 of 12") on the blade, advancing the setting as many times as there are feet in the run of the common rafter over b. Solution: c2 = a2+b2=(7½)2+62, (a : 12 :: 5 :8, whence a = 7½) c=9.60'Įxpressing this run of valley in terms of 12" of run of common rafter over b. 88-a, in terms of the run of the common rafter over b. (1) Find the run of valley rafter over c, Fig. Minor roof, Rise = 5', Run = 6' = 5/12 pitch. Given: Main roof, Rise = 8', Run = 12' = ⅛ pitch. The following example will make clear the method of attack where it is desired to develop a constant for hip or valley in terms of the common rafter of one of the pitches. The runs for such jacks may be obtained with sufficient accuracy by measurements taken from an accurately made scale drawing. Lengths of cripple jacks will not be of uniform length, as in even pitched roofs. Lengths of hip and valley jacks are determined as in Sec. The amount to be removed from each side must be separately determined according to the angle the hip makes with the plate. The backing of hips on roofs of uneven pitches, while the amount to be removed on each side of the hip will vary, is determined by the principles developed in Sec. Side or cheek cuts for valley, hip or jacks are determined according to principles developed in Sec. Since the angle of intersection changes with every change of pitch, it is hardly worth while developing a constant to be used on the tongue in framing hip and valley rafters on irregular pitches. In selecting the numbers to use on the tongue and the blade of the square, in laying out seat and plumb cuts of hip or valley rafters of intersecting roofs of different pitches, any numbers may be used providing they have a ratio equal to that of the run and rise of the rafter being framed. Lengths of common rafters will be determined for any pitch by the tables already made use of, the run being known or determined. From such a plan it may be seen that the seat and plumb cuts of common and jack rafters are determined in the usual manner, being different upon the different pitches, of course, but determined as for any given pitch. It is advisable to prepare a framing plan as shown in Fig. It remains for the student to make the applications to uneven pitches. All of the principles necessary for framing such a roof have been developed. Not infrequently a roof must be framed in which several pitches are involved. My differing pitches are 52 and 40 degrees.Framing A Roof Of Uneven Pitch. Perhaps even get a reducing measurement after marking first 2 jacks. Mark 600s off my last full common on the valley rafter, measure each one off the ridge beam, jobs a goodun. Obviously I already know my plum cut angle on jacks. Then can do a scaled sketch or use bevel to figure out angle to cut on jacks. Also done lots on layboards with flat ceilings but obviously a lot easier! So far my plan is to take valleys upto ridge beam- purlin connection using lines to work out my angles. I've done one in the past and think I just sussed it as I went with lines, levels and bad language. I am also assuming that the valley won't be at 45deg on plan as the steeper roof goes further back into main roof than half its width. However I can't now use my reckoner to get the angle of the valley for plum and seat cut. The steeper pitched roof is lower than the main roof so the ridge beam connects onto a purlin hung off doubled up attic trusses. Am on a job at the minute with as per title different pitch roofs connecting and vaulted ceiling. Michael Giacchino's music score is positively stirring, and even includes themes from Williams' score for Jurassic Park, which was just a lovely homage and fits within the rest of the scoring beautifully. This is especially true with the Indominus Rex, who is chillingly bloodthirsty, when she is stalking her prey it's enough to be glued to one's seat and then jump out of it. The dinosaurs also steal the film, not just their designs but also that they're lots of fun and are scary, their scenes are great to watch and there could have been even more than there were. First things off, Jurassic World is an incredibly well-made film, it's beautifully shot with scenery that's both colourful and atmospheric and the dinosaurs look wonderful. Jurassic World is not a patch on the first Jurassic Park and I didn't quite find it the return to form that it has been touted as, but for all its faults and uneven parts it is a massive improvements on the previous two sequels and is an entertaining film in its own right that does more right than it does wrong. The Lost World has its admirers, but for me it was a major step-down and one of Spielberg's weakest films, and Jurassic Park 3 was even more disappointing. The original Jurassic Park still is a personal favourite, it is an enormously fun, thrilling (with some nail-biting moments) and brilliantly made film, with one of John Williams' most memorable main themes and scene-stealing dinosaurs. These containers will help protect from the elements. If you can’t keep your dry yeast in the fridge or freezer after opening the package, then you can keep it in a sealed container. Don’t keep it near the stove (which tends to get much warmer than other areas of your home), heating vents, or other warm areas. If you want your instant or active dry yeast packets to last more than 2 years without keeping it in the fridge or freezer, you’ll need to keep it as cool as possible. However, the packaging doesn’t protect the yeast from high temperatures. So, yeast packets are already mostly safe from air and moisture. Air is usually removed from the package with a process called nitrogen flushing. Cool Locationĭry yeast is usually packaged in a metallic-type material that keeps out moisture. It’s not clear how long frozen yeast will last but it should be much longer than 5 years. The low temperature keeps the yeast cells in “hibernation” mode so they live much longer. Storing yeast in the freezer is even better than keeping it in the fridge. Instead, put the open yeast packets in an air-tight container first. Don’t just put the open yeast packets directly in the fridge: they will start to absorb moisture and die off faster. The important thing to know about storing yeast in the refrigerator is that the air inside can be very moist. Once the yeast pack or jar has been opened, it should be good for approximately 2 years in the fridge. Unopened packets of dry yeast can last approximately 5 years in the refrigerator. These are the elements that could “wake up” the yeast and cause it to start dying off. The key to storing yeast is to keep it away from moisture, heat, and air. Use more yeast: Depending on how old the yeast is, you might need to use much more to get the same rising effect. The yeast will activate, start to eat the sugars, and have a chance to multiply before you add the other dough ingredients. Feed the yeast some sugar first: Put the yeast in a bowl with some sugar and warm water. If it doesn’t, the yeast has lost some of its potency. Within 10 minutes, the mixture should foam up to twice its volume. Perform a yeast test before using: Dissolve 1tsp of sugar in ¼ cup of warm water (105-115F).I even heard one story of dry yeast working fine 13 years after its best-by date. However, there are plenty of accounts of expired yeast still working years after it expired. At higher temperatures, the yeast will die even faster. It varies depending on the storage conditions and strain of the yeast, but you can expect yeast to lose 10-25% of its viability per year at 68 degrees F (20C). Rather, when yeast goes bad, it means that the microorganisms have died and will no longer help the dough rise. Yeast generally doesn’t go bad in the sense that it becomes dangerous to eat. Once opening dry yeast, they recommend using the yeast within 4 months if it was kept in the fridge or 6 months if it was kept in the freezer. Red Star Yeast, for example, puts the “Best If Used By Date” for their dry yeast at two years from the date the yeast was packaged. Unopened, packets of instant and active dry yeast should last 2 years. Freeze-drying puts the yeast in a sort of hibernation so it lasts much longer. By contrast, active dry yeast and instant yeast are freeze-dried. Shelf Life of Yeastįresh yeast has a very short shelf life of just about 3 weeks in the fridge. This organism is very sensitive and can die if kept in the wrong storage conditions.ĭead yeast won’t work so it’s important that you store yeast in a way that keeps it alive. The instant and active dry yeast you use for baking is actually a living microorganism (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). I don't have Adobe Creative Cloud installed on my laptop, but that's not necessary right? The only difference between the laptop and my PC is that I'm using he Adobe Cloud Photograpy subscription on my PC (Lightroom/Photoshop CC), and I have Adobe Creative Cloud installed. However, I'm experiencing still the same issues with Photoshop Elements 2019. After cleaning up the AppData folders and a fresh install, I was able to accept the license agreement for Organizer. It kept asking to accept the license agreement. However, I wasn't able to start Organizer as well. I was hoping that this would be the solution, but that wasn't the case Then another reboot and I installed Adobe Photoshop Elements 2019 again. The next thing I did was cleaning up the %appdata% folders in the screenshot below:Īfter cleaning up the AppData folders, I did a reboot again and used CCleaner to clean up remaining files and fix registry errors.

These products usually feature a food storage hopper, a bowl where the food is dispensed and some kind of timing the food dispensing, usually with the help of an LCD screen or a smartphone app connection. Important Information About Timed Dog Feeders & Dispensers What Is A Timed Dog Feeder & Dispenser?ĭog food timers and feeders are recently popular thanks to the advance in technology. If you are, then you need to look into buying a timed dog feeder and dispenser. Are you a dog parent who spends time away from their fur baby? But these are still both conventional computer programmes designed to run on individual devices. Ulysses does that without a second thought and, unlike Scrivener, doesn’t mind if your story is open on another machine elsewhere. I gave up on the iPad app long ago since moving between screens something I do all the time. You can get an iPad app too but Scrivener is complex and awkward when it comes to syncing between devices. There is a Windows version but it’s some way behind the current Mac one at the moment though the release of Windows version 3 appears to be imminent. Which is one reason why I always try to keep an eye on what’s happening elsewhere in the writing software scene. But when you write for a living, five days a week or more, you sometimes need a change of the daily scenery. Most people will stick to one app, of course, which is eminently sensible. Ulysses excels at simpler narratives without too many twists and turns. Scrivener is by far the more complex but better, it seems to me, for multi-threaded stories. Today I flit between both depending on the project. I was an early user of Scrivener, a piece of software I still admire and use, and later adopted Ulysses, a lovely app on the Mac and iPad that combines power with simplicity. Years ago I came to the conclusion that standard word processors don’t cut it for me when it comes to dealing with the complex, threaded business of putting together a book-length narrative. I’m talking about processes, approaches, the day-to-day practice of writing. I’m not talking about ‘inspiration’ here. So I often take a long look at my work processes - the tools I use for the job - and try to work out if I can do things more efficiently next time. It’s easy to be sucked into trying to write something straight away but I long ago discovered this is a mistake. I don’t know what other authors are like but I go a bit funny whenever I’ve finished a long project. Letters to Juliet (2010-Comedy/Drama/Romance) – Vanessa RedgraveĪn American girl on vacation in Italy finds an unanswered “letter to Juliet” - one of thousands left at the fictional lover’s Verona courtyard, which are typically answered by all the “secretaries of Juliet” - and she goes on a quest to find the lovers referenced in the letter. So, pull up a chair, pop that popcorn and get ready to be entertained! Settle NO MORE! I’ve compiled a list of movies with fascinating older characters and themes we can get lost in. The search for good movies for seniors can become cumbersome and we might find ourselves settling for reruns of MASH. Therefore, it becomes hard as an older adult to find characters and stories you can identify with. The issue coming up again and again is the fact that the movie industry gears majority of movies towards an audience under 40 years old. There’s nothing better than identifying with the lead character or finding parts of you in the antagonist. Who doesn’t love getting lost in a thick twisted plot of a great drama or laughing until they cry over a hysterical comedy? Sometimes, nothing is more entertaining than a good movie. |
